description

Larry Hohman has combined his career as a commercial artist and his deep love of nature to create three lovely children's ABC books. Each book contains, in alphabetical order and corresponding to the appropriate letter, colorful and beautifully detailed drawings of a bird, beast (wild animal), or botanical in its natural habitat. The illustrations alone place these books above most others, so much so that you might be tempted to frame each page! The rhyming verses for each animal contain information about their behavior and life histories, such as hunting for food, protecting their young, vocalizing, or moving about. In the third edition, Alphabetical Botanicals in Color, released in April 2006, the author's rhyming verses describe each plant.  A listing on the inside back cover of each book identifies each animal/plant with the alphabetical letter it represents, and for Beasts, each animal's country of origin is listed.

Watch for a fourth edition in the series to be titled Alphabetical Butterflies in Color.

about the author

Lawrence (Larry) Hohman was born and raised in Cleveland, Ohio. He honed his artistic talent for drawing at The Cleveland Institute of Art. After graduation, he went to work as an art studio designer, then as an advertising agency art director, and finally as the owner of a commercial art studio. He owned the studio for twenty-six years, until retiring in 1996.

From buying land on which he built a small log cabin from the trees on the property, to enjoying golf and gardening, Hohman lives his true love of nature and the outdoors. Larry and his wife, Evelyn, live in Olmsted Falls, Ohio. The couple has four grown daughters.

REVIEWS:

"These are fun books to share with your elementary students. They share information without having to mention evolution, something that is so hard to find in nature books today. I can give my wholehearted recommendation on purchasing these books for your elementary aged son or daughter....they not only had accurate, quality pictures of the critter or plant discussed but they also give reliable information....  ...the artwork is superbly detailed and the information presented is accurate. Perhaps the book will encourage your child to take a look at the natural world and develop the same awe of God's wonderful creation just as it did for me as a child and continues to do as an older adult."  -- Diana Pederson, BellaOnline's Christian Literature Editor, January 2007.
