Homes and Libraries of the Presidents, now in its third edition, continues to be the best guide book available that identifies, describes, and provides sources of additional information about the homes, libraries, and museums that commemorate presidents of the United States, from George Washington to George W. Bush. Now, with the addition of four new entries, a total of 99 sites are found in this current edition. Each president's life and home is put into personal and historical context. The book has three sections:
Section one provides an overview of the historical significance of presidential homes and museums, discusses restoration and preservation efforts, and traces the federal government's role, through the National Park Service and the National Archives, in administering and maintaining these sites. Unlike other books of this type, Homes and Libraries of the Presidents includes a Scope and Purpose in addition to the Preface and Introduction. The Table of Contents is extensively described with each presidents name, followed by each home, library, and museum that is contained in the book. A Distribution Map showing the placement of each home, library, and museum is also included, along with identification key. These unique features assist the reader in finding specific information quickly!
Section two—the most extensive part of the book—presents short anecdotal biographies of each president, followed by a description of the relevant home, museum, or library sites. Contact information, hours of operation, and driving directions, including maps where necessary, are also provided for each site. For most entries, additional reading information is described.
Section three identifies sources of additional information related to the theme of the book, such as a list of presidential birthplaces, burial sites, and foundations and associations devoted to the study of the presidents and perpetuation of their heritage. The Bibliography and Index complete the book.

After spending 42 years in the advertising end of the television broadcasting industry, where he worked with such television icons as Groucho Marx, Johnny Carson, and Milton Berle, and spending twelve years as censor for "Saturday Night Live" –William Clotworthy retired and began to travel, to lecture, and to write. Now he turns his attention to identifying and describing sites commemorating American presidents. He is a recognized authority on presidential sites, authoring two other books on the American presidential heritage, Presidential Sites: A Directory of Places associated with Presidents of the United States and In the Footsteps of George Washington: A Guide to Places Commemorating the First President. Mr. Clotworthy previously taught a class on George Washington at the College for Seniors at the University of North Carolina, Asheville, and has been named an "Ageless Hero of North Carolina" in recognition of his life-long pursuit of knowledge.
Mr. Clotworthy is a member of the M & W Speakers Bureau and is available for presentations and book signings.
