Carrie Papa is the author of two books with McDonald & Woodward Publishing  Company. The first,   The Carousel Keepers: An Oral History of American Carousels, captures the excitement of the small amusement park and the magic of the carousel that was its centerpiece.  The reader will "hear" the voices of manufacturers of carousels and the craftsmen who made them, owners and managers of amusement parks, carousel operators and support personnel, riders, and those who have studied, preserved and revitalized carousels and preserved interest in them. A Mile Deep and Black as Pitch: An Oral History of the Franklin and Sterling Hill Mines explores the history of zinc mining in Sussex County, New Jersey. Through the recollections of the miners and their families, Ms. Papa documents  an important and controversial piece of American industrial history. Although she has always had an eye for history--she earned a BA in History from Rutgers University--Ms. Papa's keen interest in people and their history was honed during thirty years of living abroad. Upon her return to the states, she served as the founding director of the Old Monroe School Museum in New Jersey, and her work there involved the design, research and implementation of several oral history projects including Stones & Stories: An Oral History of the Old Monroe School, which later was published as a book. Ms. Papa is currently at work on a new book on carousels, Diamonds on the Midway: A Guide to America's Classic Carousels, a McDonald and Woodward Guide to the American Landscape.

Ms. Papa is available for talks illustrated with slides and for book- signings.
