DESCRIPTION:
As Arizona approaches its centennial in 2012, there is little doubt that people in the region will be interested in the history of the 48th state, the last contiguous state to enter the Union.
The Arizona Historical Dictionary is a complete and up-to-date one-volume resource of the history of Arizona, which covers the period from prehistoric times through publication.
It contains brief biographies of some 170 Arizonans, the most detailed chronology of Arizona published, necrologies, selected speeches, charts, maps, lists, illustrations, photographs, recommended readings, and other items of interest about Arizona.
Previous biographical dictionaries traditionally included only histories of white men for the most part. This diverse compilation includes many of those significant men but it also presents the contributions of Native Americans, African Americans, Asian Americans, Hispanic Americans, women, and other groups.
This book was written for the general public in a lively, easily comprehensible style. However, students from high school through graduate school, teachers and professors, reference librarians, researchers, historians, archivists, museums, and state and local government officials especially will find benefit from the information contained in this book.
